Croxley Moor Try-O Event Results 31/10/99Comments from the Organiser. Organiser's CommentsWith so many isobars on the weather chart, it seemed incredible that we should be blessed with continuous sunshine, not a drop of rain, and little more than a stiff breeze throughout the event. Thank you all for coming. We hope that those who were trying orienteering for the first time enjoyed the experience, and that we shall meet you again. Don't hesitate to contact us if you realised too late that you had forgotten to ask us some burning question. We hope that those who were already orienteers found sufficient challenge in our only technical course, the Light Green. Perhaps with hindsight, we might have arranged at least one more technical course. I would like to thank Three Rivers Council for allowing us to use Croxley Woods and Common for orienteering, and Costco and Kenwood for the use of their car park in Dwight Road. Thanks to all the willing helpers on the day, and I mean willing - they all volunteered to help. Without them, a heap of miscellaneous equipment brought to the site and dumped on the grass would never have become so quickly an orienteering event. Special thanks too to Paul who planned the courses and who, with the minimum of help, not only put out the controls before the event, but maintained a watching brief over their safety throughout the morning, and then went out yet again after the event to collect them in again. One or two runners on the Light Green course , finishing at about 12 o'clock, reported that they had been unable to find control 6, and that the presence of boys on bicycles in the area suggested a possible explanation. The same control had as mysteriously reappeared in place for subsequent runners. Do I suspect a Halloween prank by the boys ? "Now you see it, now you don't, now you see it again ?" We may never know, but suffice it so say that no-one was disqualified. Finally an apology. The water at the finish should have been squash, but the active ingredient had slipped 'below decks' in the car and never made that heap in the field. I failed to notice this, and you were all too polite to complain!
