Organiser's CommentsA few words of thanks: to Watford Council for permission to use Whippendell, to Fullerians Rugby Club for the use of their car park and their clubhouse, to the usual band of HH helpers , and to you ,the competitors for attending. Whippendell seems to have been first used for orienteering in 1973 and has been used for many events since then; I suspect more times than any other HH area. It has served a variety of purposes, is fairly runnable throughout the year and provides plenty of interesting features. A pity it is not a little larger. Robin Barris Controller's CommentsDavid Saunders sent me his proposed courses to me in May and all were considered to be right first time. On the day they also proved to be of the appropriate technical level for this event, although the high temperature, on what must be the hottest day of the year so far, meant that the braver souls on the extension course suffered from the heat. Robin and his team ran the event efficiently, the best jobs being in the shade in the forest. The woods have a high use by locals and you will have noted the presence of some extra minor seasonal paths in comparison with the map. But the area is relatively free of overwhelming bramble, bracken and bramble and provides an excellent venue. Andrew Chalmers ( TVOC ) |
