String course results. Par times Comments from the Organiser, Planner and Controller. Lost property. Some Information about HH. Organiser's commentsThank you all for coming. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves. We were certainly lucky with the weather - modesty forbids me from taking credit for that. If you liked the courses, as you seemed to, then your thanks are owed to Kevin who put in a lot of time and effort in preparing them and to Julie for making sure that we did things right. Both worked hard for your enjoyment. Thanks too to all the club members who turned out to help, from 7.45 in the morning, when the controls were put out, to 3.30 in the afternoon when they were all safely collected plus all the other bits in between. Quite an effort, shared willingly and uncomplainingly, which always makes organizing Happy Herts events much less of a chore than it otherwise might be. Last, but by no means least, grateful thanks to Lord and Lady Salisbury for allowing us to hold the event and to the estate staff who were so helpful in ensuring that we had what we wanted. Tony Miley Planner's commentsThis was my first attempt at planning a colour-coded event and the constructive mentoring of the controller was much appreciated. The quality of the courses owes much to her input, and I will approach any future planning with greater confidence and a firm grounding in the principals. It has also been very interesting after the event looking at the splits - in some cases legs, which I had thought might be tricky, seem to have caused none of you problems, whereas other, apparently uncomplicated ones, did. In retrospect the description for pit 144 on green and brown, which attracted some comment on the day, should have included "overgrown" but the significant numbers of competitors with fast splits for these legs suggests that the control position wasn't fundamentally unsound, even if having a more technical control towards the end of the courses was a little unfriendly. Kevin Parkes Controller's CommentsDespite his comments, Kevin's initial courses were very close to those used on the day, with few amendments made through the planning/controlling process. He also mentions the only clarification that with hindsight, we should have made to one control description. Although Millwards Park is very open and allows fast running, some parts including the area around 144, require careful navigation to avoid time loss. I was a little disappointed with the turnout, particularly with such good weather, but the numbers were close to the level expected by Tony. The fixtures clash with a WAOC event will have reduced numbers slightly. However, many of those attending have started orienteering at the successful HH Saturday series and it is good to see new faces in the sport. especially so many younger participants. Thanks to HH for the "army" of volunteers who turned up to help on the day - I am always impressed by the support that HH members give their events. Thanks particularly to Tony and Joan, Kevin, Penny, Graham and Laura (this was a whole family effort on the day) and assistant controller Ronan, who donated a lot of their spare time in the hope that you would have an enjoyable day in the woods.
