Editorial

With so few events in Britain over the last few months, it is hardly surprising that this edition of Pacemaker should have a slightly 'continental' feel, with reports from the Belgian three days and the World Orienteering Championships in Finland - albeit a supporter's rather than competitor's view. To avoid too much emphasis on events from abroad, some of these reports have been held over and will appear in November.

One major 'event' that went ahead was the Scottish Six Days, with a good number of Happy Herts ignoring the warnings of wet weather and midges on the West coast to take part in six days of high-quality orienteering. Tough open areas with lots of rock- an excellent challenge, as described by Kevin and Rebecca Harding in their report for Pacemaker (pages 6 to 9). Many club members also found time to attend a club barbecue, from which the rain stayed away, thankfully.

Some events may still be cancelled, so it's definitely worth checking before travelling, but it does look as though the schedule is filling up between now and Christmas, including the first events in the 2001-2002 South-East League (page 24).

The next Pacemaker will appear in mid-November with a copy date of 28/10/2001.
