Gazette Happy Herts' newest member (well youngest at least) is Gemma India Gostick, born on 24th August. A week after the birth, a communiqué from the Gostick household announced that " Having spent the summer thinking of orienteering but unable to walk down town without getting puffed, leading W35S Jenny Gostick has just recently given birth to a happy little girl (who) had spent the summer building her running muscles up with kicking practice. She was 3.05kg or 6lb 12oz in old money. Mother and baby are doing fine, but the father is rather tired due to late nights, shopping, cooking and being generally helpful." Gemma made her first pubic appearance at the club AGM, keeping very quiet and choosing not to vote.
At the AGM in September, Colin Webster was presented with the Farmer Trophy for most improved club member. The Harding Trophy, for services to the club, was awarded to Helen Errington for her efforts organising the 1999 British Schools' Orienteering Championships. Helen was not at the AGM to receive the trophy, as she was packing up the family for a trip to Hong Kong the next day. As well as taking nice photographs, Duncan can also orienteer quite well. He recently won M21E at the rescheduled National Event at Braunton Burrows and at the National Event in South Wales the following Sunday. Not only is Kevin Harding the new club champion, but, masquerading as a member of Tring running club, he also picked up another (more impressive) trophy for winning the A class at the Capricorn Mountain Marathon in the Lake District. | |||||||||
