FCC 2011 - Congratulations to Chris Young, 3rd in M18 in the 2011 Future Champions Cup. Chris is also the highest-ranked HH in the national rankings scheme.
Club Champions 2011 - Congratulations to the winners at the HH Club Champs, embedded in the TVOC Wendover event on 18 December: Open - Kevin Harding, Open Handicap - Neville Young, Ladies - Rebecca Harding, Vets - Val Challacombe, Vets Handicap - Penny Parkes, Intermediate Boys - Daniel Figg, Intermediate Girls - Beth Hanson, Junior - Thomas M'Caw.
Southern Night Champions - Congratulations to Laura Parkes (W20) and Janet Rosen (W55), crowned Southern Night Champions at Bordon on 3rd December. Also to Dawn Figg, 2nd on W40.

The Yvette Baker Trophy is Britain's premier Junior Inter-Club competition. HH improved on last year's 5th place, coming 3rd in the final on 4th December in Mausoleum Woods in Lincolnshire, ahead of DEE, Devon, SYO, and SO, to name a few. Congratulations to the scorers: Beth Hanson, Natalia & Maria Pereverzina, Evan Bowers, Chris Young, Bryony Harding, Tom M'Caw, Laura Bayne, and Sam Fielding, and to all the HH juniors who took part. Congratulations also to all those in HH who have made this possible through many years' sustained programme of local events, and to the many coaches who have worked so hard to build a junior squad with strength in depth.
YBT Heat - Congratulations to HH juniors on once again reaching the Yvette Baker Trophy final in December in Lincolnshire. They won their heat on 23 October at Rowney Warren, overcoming stiff opposition from SUFFOC and WAOC amongst others.
Peter Palmer relay - At the Peter Palmer junior relay on 10-11 September at Beacon Barracks near Stafford, HH's team of Miranda Leaf, Bryony Harding, Becky Young, Beth Hanson, Sam Fielding, and Chris Young were 6th. This terrific result - the top southern club ahead of BOK, SAX, NOC, OD, WAOC and SO amongst others - demonstrates again HH's junior strength. Well done to you all!
Scottish 6 Days - HH's best results were in W35L at the Scottish 6 Days based on Oban at the start of August. Helen Pearce and Gillian Jubb were 3rd and 5th overall in this class.
HH World Champion! - Congratulations to Val Challacombe, who became world W60 sprint champion at the World Masters Orienteering Championships at Pécs in Hungary in July.
SE Relays - HH juniors were successful in the SE Relays on the 22nd May, held at Kings Wood Challck, coming first and third. Well done to James, James, Sam, Evan, Dominic and Alex.
British Championships Weekend, 14-15 May 2011, Sheffield - At the individual race at Wharncliffe, Wheata & Greno Woods, Helen Pearce was crowned long-distance champion on W35L. Helen has now made a clean sweep of the W35 short, middle and long disciplines this year. Congratulations also to Alison Harding, 3rd on W50L, and Chris Young, 3rd on M18E.
At the relays at Tankersley Woods, Happy Gazelles were W18 champions: Becky Young, Maria Pereverzina, and Bryony Harding each recorded a fastest leg time in the course of the team winning the relay. Also Happy Springbok (Kevin Harding, Chris Young & Ian Marsden) were 2nd on Men's Short by only 22 seconds, and Happy Ibex (Alison Harding, Helen Errington & Janet Rosen) were 2nd on W50.
Junior World Champs - Congratulations to Rebecca Harding on her selection for the British team for JWOC on 2-9 July in Poland.
JK 2011, 22-25 April, Northern Ireland - The outstanding HH achievement of the JK belongs to Helen Pearce, with a clean sweep: 1st W35 in the sprint at Stranmillis University College in Belfast, 1st W35L over the two days of classic at Tyrella South and Slieve Croob, and one of HH's winning Women's Short relay team back at Tyrella South.
Our other individual podium placing was for Janet Rosen: 3rd over two days on W55L.
It was an outstanding year for HH as a whole at the relays:
Happy Chamois (Helen Pearce, Natalia Pereverzina, Bryony Harding): 1st on Women's Short.
Happy Ibex (Alison Harding, Liz Drew, Janet Rosen): 2nd on W165+.
Happy Gazelles (Miranda Leaf, Maria Pereverzina, Becky Young): 3rd on W48-.
Happy Springbok (Chris Young, Ian Marsden, Kevin Harding): 3rd on Men's Short.
Also worth noting, since one member is only 7 years old, is our Happy Muntjac team of James Errington, Alex Fielding, and Samuel Fielding, who were 5th on M/W40-. Something to watch for the future!
Sprint and Middle Champions for HH - At the British Sprint and Middle Distance Champs on 9/10 April at Brighton University and Worth Lodge, Helen Pearce was crowned W35 champion in both disciplines, whilst on M50 Kevin Harding won the sprint and was 3rd at the middle distance. Robin Barris was 3rd on the M75 middle distance. Congratulations to you all!
Southern Championships - The 2011 Southern Championships were held at the TVOC National Event at Hambleden on 13 March. Congratulations to our Southern Champions Becky Young (W16), Laura Parkes (W20), Helen Pearce (W35), and Kevin Harding (M50). Kevin was 1st on M50L, and Helen 1st on W35L. Congratulations also to Gemma Gostick (3rd on W12A) and Alison Harding (3rd on W50L).
HH Club League Season 8 - Congratulations to Maria Pereverzina for winning the 2010/11 Club League, and also to Robin Barris (2nd), and Mike Edwards (3rd). See the full results of this handicap competition.
Midland Championships - Congratulations to Mark Adams, 3rd on M45, and Robin Barris, 3rd on M75, at the National Event which formed the Midland Champs at Sheringham, Norfolk on 20th February.
HH Juniors 5th in YBT final - Our juniors took 5th place in the Yvette Baker Trophy final at Hawkbatch in the Wyre Forest on 6th Feb, beating both Southdowns and South Yorkshire. This is the premier junior inter-club competition for England and Wales. Our exceptional result means HH will be seeded next year.

British Night Championships - These were held on 5th Feb at Bentley Woods, Warks. Congratulations to Janet Rosen, HH's British Night Champion (at W55).
Peter Burt Trophy - Congratulations to Miranda Leaf on winning the Peter Burt trophy for the "most improved" competitor in the SE League for the 2009/10 season.
SE Galoppen 2010 - A competition for SEOA individuals, in 2010 based on the best five runs from Chelwood Vachery, Sheepleas & Effingham, Burnham Beeches, Eridge Park, Angmering, Eartham, Broxbourne Woods and Long Valley South. Congratulations to HH's winners: Mark Adams (Brown), Peter Errington (Yellow), Joseph and Alex Fielding (White); also to 2nd-placed Helen Pearce (Short Brown), Frances Goldingay (Green), Robin Barris (Short Green), James Errington and Sam Fielding (Orange), Daniel Figg (Yellow); and 3rd-placed Dawn Figg (Green), Bob Kay (Light Green), Ellie Kendal (Orange). CompassSport Cup Heat - so near and yet so far... - HH came a close second to SLOW at our CSC heat at Ranmore Common on 16 Jan (2206 points to 2231). Congratulations to our scorers: Michael Currie, Tim Street, Kevin Fielding, Ian Marsden, Helen Pearce, Alison Harding, Laura Parkes, Mark Adams, Kevin Harding, Alan Rosen, Janet Rosen, Helen Errington, Natalia Pereverzina, Colin Webster, Mick Smith, Chris Drew, Hedley Calderbank, Liz Drew, Robin Barris, Chris Young, Miranda Leaf, Becky Young, Maria Pereverzina, Sam Fielding and Beth Hanson; and also to all those other club members who took part. Beating SO is an important milestone, SLOW looked to be closer to full strength than us, and the absence of any one of various HH absences/mishaps could have swung it. The Captain is enthused by this performance so expect relentless pressure for next year: please put 19 Feb 2012 in your diary now!
Interland 2011 Selections - Congratulations to Chris Young and Rebecca Harding on their selection to compete for England on 6 March at Lübbecke in NW Germany. Also to Becky Young as reserve. Interland is a hexangular against two Belgian teams (Flemish and French speaking), the Netherlands, the Nordrhein-Westfalische team and a French team.
World Schools 2011 - Congratulations to Becky Young on her selection for the World Schools Orienteering Championships 2011 in Trentino, Italy. Becky is one of just 5 girls and 5 boys in the British team, as a result of her performance at the selection race at Whippendell on 20 November.

HH reaches YBT final - On 10th October, HH juniors beat TVOC and BKO at Swinley to reach the Yvette-Baker Trophy final, which will take place in the Wyre Forest in December. They were 2nd to the strongest club for juniors in Britain, OD, but not by much! (883 points to 895) Congratulations to the scorers Chris Young, Natalia Pereverzina, Miranda Leaf, Becky Young, Maria Pereversina, James Errington, Jamie Woodford, James O'Higgins, and Gemma Gostick; but also to the other HH juniors who ran - they played an important role in reducing the points scored by opposition runners.
HH has an orienteer in the top flight of British orienteering - Congratulations to Rebecca Harding on her promotion from the World Class Talent Squad to the World Class Squad.
GB Team Selection - Congratulations to Rebecca Harding on her selection for the GB team to compete in the Junior European Champs in Scotland in October
Congratulations to Gemma Gostick ... for her 2nd place overall in W10A in the Lakes 5 Days on 22-27 August.
Home International 2010 Selections - Becky Young (W14) and Chris Young (M16) have been selected to run for England in the Ward Junior Home International this autumn. Rebecca Harding (W20) has been selected for the Senior International, and Kevin Harding (M55) and Janet Rosen (W55) for the Veterans.
HH Club League - The 7th HH Club League season is over. The League is intended to identify the most improving orienteers in HH, and this season they were juniors - Becky Young, Miranda Leaf, Peter Errington, Chris Young and James Errington in that order. The only adult to get in amongst them was Paul Hearn. Congratulations to you all! There is more detail in the 9 June email from leaguemaster Mike Bennett.
SE League - The SE inter-club competition finished after the last event in May with HH a comfortable second overall, but still a long way behind Southdowns.

ULOC/IOC 9 15 15 13The runner points are revealing: they show how much we have to grow as a Club to catch Southdowns, but they also show that we should congratulate ourselves for a good turnout for the SE League, relative to the similarly sized SLOW and MV.
SE Relays, Whippendell, 6 June - Well done to Happy Oryx, consisting of Laura Parkes, Simon Errington, and Kevin Fielding, for their 2nd place in the handicap relay.
Scottish Championships - At the Scottish Champs at Rannoch Forest on 29th May, Alison Harding won W50, and next day, Happy Hardings, consisting of Kevin, Alison and Bryony, were 2nd in the 12pts Handicap relay.
British Championships, Cannock Chase, 1/2 May - Congratulations to our British Champions: Janet Rosen on W55, and Gemma Gostick on W10. Also to Kevin Harding who was 3rd on M50. In the relays, Happy Gazelles (Laura Parkes, Becky Young and Bryony Harding) were 2nd on W18, and Happy Springbok (Kevin Harding, Chris Young and Ian Marsden) were 3rd on Men's Short.
International Selections - Rebecca Harding has a busy July, having been selected for both the World University Championships at Borlänge, Sweden, and the Junior World Champs at Aalborg, Denmark. Chris Young has been selected for Britain's M16 team at the European Youth Championships at Soria, Spain, also in July. Congratulations to them both on making it into such exclusive teams. SE Sprint and Middle Distance Champs - The South-East Sprint and Middle Distance Championships were held at Wimbledon on 10-11 April. Becky Young won the junior womens' sprint. There were 2nd places for Helen Errington on veteran women, Miranda Leaf on junior women, James Errington on junior men, and Peter Errington on mini men. At the Middle Distance champs HH had plenty more junior success: 1st place for Chris Young on M16, Miranda Leaf on W16, Becky Young on W14, and Gemma Gostick on W10; 2nd for James Errington on M14. Also Simon Errington was 2nd on M45/50 and Frances Goldingay 3rd on W55/60.
New HH Coaches - Congratulations to Frances Goldingay and Dawn Figg who have completed their UKCC (United Kingdom Coaching Certificate) Level 1 award.
JK in the South-West - This year's JK was held in the South-West, from 2nd to 5th April, with a sprint event at Bicton College, individual days at Cookworthy Forest and Braunton Burrows, and relays also at Braunton
Burrows. The outstanding HH result was in the W165+ relay, from the Happy Ibex team consisting of Alison Harding, Liz Drew, and Janet Rosen. They demolished the opposition, winning by almost 9 minutes - the largest winning margin of any class. In the hotly contested Men's Short relay, Happy Springbok (Tim Street, Chris Young, and Ian Marsden) produced a great result to come 3rd. At the sprint event, Janet won W55 and Liz was 2nd in W60. Over the two individual days, Janet was 2nd on W55, Gemma Gostik 3rd on W10, and Chris Young 4th on M16. Congratulations to you all.
Trossachs World Ranking Event - FVO held a world ranking event which was also a UK Cup, Future Champions Cup, and GBR senior and junior selection race on the Trossachs on 28 March. In a terriffic result Chris Young won M16 by a wide margin, and also Becky Young was 3rd on W14.
Midland Championships - Congratulations to Gemma Gostick for winning W10A at the Midlands Championships at Belvoir Castle on 21st March.
HH Southern Champions - Congratulations to Gemma Gostick (W10), Becky Young (W14), Bryony Harding (W18), and Janet Rosen (W55) who became Southern Champions for 2010 at the Lydney Park event in the Forest of Dean on 21 February. Commiserations to Kevin Harding who missed out on the M50 title by 1 second.
World Class Talent - Rebecca Harding has been selected for the "World Class Talent" squad: just 22 athletes on a special development programme which opens the way to selection for the national team.
MV Sheepleas SE League Event - 17 Jan 2010 - A spate of junior successes for HH! Congratulations to Sam Fielding for winning Orange, with James Errington only 3 seconds behind. Also to Peter Errington for winning Yellow, and to Alex & Joseph Fielding for 2nd and 3rd on White. In addition, Miranda Leaf and Becky Young were the leading two juniors on Green, and Chris Young showed all but four of the adults a clean pair of heels on Short Brown.
Interland International - Congratulations to HH members Kevin Harding, Janet Rosen, and Becky Young on their selection for the England team for the Interland International in Belgium in March, and also to Alison and Rebecca Harding as reserves. This is a remarkable representation from one club - well done to you all!
